The 9th BRICS Trade Union Forum to be held by videoconference on October 30, 2020
Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia is holding the 9th plenary session of the BRICS Trade Union Forum by videoconference. This decision was made after consultations with the national trade union centres of the BRICS countries. The ongoing pandemic of the new coronavirus does not allow for a face-to-face meeting in the traditional format, but trade unions are ready to do it online.
Participants in the Forum prepared a draft Declaration outlining the most pressing issues facing trade unions in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It is expected that the Declaration will be adopted during the plenary session, after which it will be submitted to the BRICS heads of state for consideration.
Apart from trade union delegates from the largest national trade union centres of the BRICS countries, the Forum will bring together senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the BRICS Business Council, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the ILO.
The main venue of the 9th trade Union Forum will be St. Petersburg. The plenary session will be opened by FNPR President Mr. Mikhail Shmakov who chairs the Trade Union Forum in the year of Russian presidency of BRICS.
For the first time since the establishment of BRICS the Trade Union Forum is included in the list of its official events.
