The 13-th BRICS Trade Union Forum was held in Sochi
In the year of Russian presidency of BRICS taking place under a common slogan «Strengthening multilateralism for fair global development and security», the 13th BRICS Trade Union Forum was held on September 7-8, 2024 in the congress hall of the Sea Galaxy Hotel in Sochi. The Forum delegates representing trade union centres of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran delivered reports on the socio-economic situation in their countries, reviewed current situation in the trade union movement and discussed cooperation-related issues.
The delegates received greetings from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin; Deputy Foreign Minister, Russia’s BRICS Sherpa Sergey Ryabkov; President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin. The delegates were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Russia Alexey Vovchenko and other officials.
During the Forum it was officially joined by the most representative workers’ organisations from new BRICS member-countries: Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran.
The Forum delegates adopted by consensus the Sochi Declaration of the BRICS Trade Union Forum, which has been posted on the official website www.tufbrics.org. The document regulating the procedure for admitting new members of the Forum has been adopted.
A number of panel discussions were held with the participation of well-known Russian experts and political figures Andrey Isaev, Sergey Karaganov and Nikolay Starikov.
The Forum was attended by several leaders of international trade union associations, as well as representatives of countries that have shown an interest in joining BRICS.
In the course of a social programme the delegates were introduced to the history and capabilities of the largest balneological resort in Matsesta.
Upon completion of the Forum its delegates attended BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting, which included an exchange of views on the current issues of employment, social protection and labour market development in BRICS countries.
