II BRICS Trade Union Forum. Durban (South Africa) March 23-24, 2013
The 2nd BRICS Trade Union Forum was held on March 23-24, 2013 in Durban, South Africa. For two days trade union delegates were discussing the most topical issues of cooperation on subjects of concern to union members in the participating countries. The purpose of the meeting was to reach mutual understanding on the key issues of the BRICS leaders’ agenda.
After the establishment of BRICS Trade Union Forum in Moscow in December of 2012 there was a need for a more detailed discussion of such issues as the trade union response to global financial crisis, the essence of trade union solidarity in the global economy, the attitude of trade unions to the new financial initiatives discussed within BRICS, such as the New Development Bank, etc.
The discussion led to adoption of the Declaration of the 2nd Trade Union Forum addressed to the heads of BRICS states who met in Durban two days later.
Trade union delegates discussed various issues of cooperation and coordination of actions within BRICS Trade Union Forum.
