Delegates of the XIIIth BRICS Trade Union Forum took part in the annual meeting of Labor and Employment Ministers in Sochi. 2024.09.09.
On September 9, 2024, the 10th meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Labor and Employment took place in Sochi, with the delegations of the new BRICS member countries taking part in it.
The delegates of the BRICS Trade Union Forum took part in the ministerial meeting that was devoted to the four main issues:
- “Development of a system of vocational guidance and lifelong professional education for the entire population”;
- “Platform employment: the role in the labor market and the problems of regulating the labor of platform workers”;
- “Ensuring safe work and social security for employees”;
- "Development of social support for the citizens of BRICS countries. Modern instruments of social policy."
The ministerial meeting, chaired by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Anton Kotyakov, was attended by the President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Mohammed Azman, the Secretary General of the ISSA Marcelo Caetano, and the Director of the ILO Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Mikhail Pushkin. The ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo joined the meeting via videoconference.
In his welcome address, the FNPR President Mikhail Shmakov said, in particular: “We fully share the view that workers' rights are human rights, and that integrating human rights and international labour standards into economic and regulatory policies is crucial to reducing inequalities and creating conditions for promoting more equitable and inclusive economic development worldwide.”
The ministers adopted the Declaration of the Ministers of Labor and Employment of the BRICS countries, which outlines the cooperation priorities with regard to platform employment and the transformation of labor relations under the influence of technological trends, social protection, work culture improvement, occupational injuries reduction, lifelong education mechanisms’ development, and modern instruments of social policy.
After the meeting, the foreign trade union delegations and the FNPR representatives took part in the opening of the All-Russian Occupational Safety and Health Week.
