All-China Federation of Trade Unions
The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) is the national trade union center and people's organization of the People's Republic of China. It is the largest trade union in the world with 302 million members.
The Federation was founded on 1 May 1925 when the "Second National Labor Congress" of China convened in Guangdong with 277 delegates representing 540,000 workers, and adopted the Constitution of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party(CPC), is a mass organizations of the working class that are voluntarily formed by workers. The ACFTU represents the interests of its members and employees.
Chinese trade unions applies the principle of combining union organizations formed along the industrial line with those formed on the locality basis. ACFTU is the organizational and leadership organ of all Chinese trade unions. There are 10 national industrial trade unions, 33 provincial trade unions. There are near 300 million trade union members.
The supreme organ of the ACFTU is the National Congress of Trade Unions, and the ACFTU Executive Committee it elects. The National Congress is held every five years.
In the ACFTU headquarters, there are departments including the General Office, Organization Department, Publicity and Education Department, Research Office, Rights Protection Department, Labour and Economic Work Department, Grassroots Union Work Department, Network and Information Work Department, Social Liaison Department, Legal Work Department, Women Worker Department, Finance Department, International Liaison Department, and Office of the ACFTU Audit Committee.
The ACFTU adheres to the principles of independence, mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, strengthening cooperation and enhancing friendship , advocates peace, development, cooperation, the rights and interests of workers, and has always worked hard to promote the friendship between the Chinese working class and the working class of other countries, develop relations with trade unions of various countries and international and regional trade unions, and make positive contributions to safeguarding world peace, promoting common development and building a community of shared future for mankind.
