General Information
Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt – 112,9 mil. people (14th in the world).
The male population of the country is 50,2% (56,7 mil. people), the female population – 49,8% (56,2 mil. people). The median age in the republic is 24,7 years, with almost 63% of the population being in the age category from 15 to 65 years. The percentage of people under 15 is 32,7%. The smallest group is the population over 65 years old – 4,5%.
The sex ratio indicator – 1,01 men per one woman.
The overall life expectancy for 2025 is 72,7 years, with male life expectancy being approximately 70,1 years, while female life expectancy is 75,4 years and higher.
Ethnic and Confessional Composition
Ethnic Composition
The ethnic composition of the country is almost homogeneous: 99,6% of residents – Arabs (Egyptians), also – Nubians, Berbers and other groups. Egypt is also home to about 0,32% of foreigners – official immigrants, including students and refugees. Among them, Syrians (54,5%), Palestinians (30,1%) and Sudanese (7,4%) predominate, as well as people from other African and Middle Eastern countries. An insignificant number of migrants arrived from Asia, Europe and the USA.
Confessional Composition
The main religions – Sunni Islam (approximately 90%) and Christianity (Copts predominate – about 9%). Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Protestants and representatives of other confessions also live in the country.
State Language
The official language of Egypt – literary Arabic. The majority of print media is published in it. Dialects are used in everyday communication: Egyptian Arabic (68% of the population) and Sa'idi (29%), which differ significantly from literary Arabic.
The Bedouins, constituting a minority, speak Bedouin dialects, mainly in Sinai. The Sudanese dialect of Arabic is common among people from Sudan.
English, French and German languages are common in business and education.
